MASTERTON NOTES
■ At the annual meeting of the Masterton Municipal Silver Band, Mr. G. At. Coradino was elected patron and Mr. A. 1\ Whatman president. According to the annual report of the ■Masterton Bowling Club there were 71 active and 21 honorary members on the roll at the «nd of last season. , In the Wairarapa Rugby Union's matches on Saturday, Gladstono defeated Greytown by U points to 6, and Carterton defeated Red Star by 20 points to 8. At a meeting of poultrymen in Masterton on Monday night, Mr. G. B. Merritt outlined a scheme for settling returned soldiere on poultry farms, and stated that there was an ideal property near Masterton that could bo cut up into thirty selections of ten acres each. Mr. Merritt suggests that the returned soldiers bo put on tho land with Government assistance, under a competent superfor a, period. The assets of tho. Masterton Municipal Silver. Band are estimated at ,C93S 17s. 7d., and the liabilities at 13s. 2d. An appeal is being made in the Wairarapa for a yearly ' subscription of J4OO to maintain tho Wairarapa beds in the Paralysed Soldiers' Hostel in London.
