TECHNICAL SCHOOL SITE

AN INTERKSTING PROPOSAL. A site [or Hut long-promised Technical School of'tho future has given food for thought, (o many peoplo, but so lav tho sit© recommended by tho Education Department itself at tho southern ond of tho Aloxiuulra Barracks appears to find most, favour with, those who have the matter closest at heart. There aro four acres of good clay lnnd there—mi amplo space for buildings and playgrounds, n nd as near the centre of Wellington as is possible. Another proposal was recently communicated to Mr. W. S. La. 'J'robo. This was for tho Education Department to arrango to acquiro tho Wollingtwn, College endowmont lands between Vivian Street and Lorno Street for the purposes of a Technical School site. Up till a .year ago tho College Governors were receiving only a. pepporcorn. rontal for these endowment leases, and now a great deal of money has to bo spent; on the houses to make them habitabJo. It has been pointed out that the Technical School -might bo able to arrange for a much better return for the College Governors and still be able to mako esoellent use of tho .valuable and very central block of land (which is only five mimitea' walk from the Basin .Reserve and about tho same to tho To Aro sea-front).
