Y.M.C.A. NOTES
The local Y.M.C.A. buildings were agnin crowded with soldiers over the week-end. 188 beds were supplied ;ind M 7 meals served to soldiers at tho Hostel in Boulcott Steret, and 121 beds and 192 meals at the main Y.M.C.A. building in Willis Street. Owing to tho cutting off of tho gas supplies, electric light has been installed temporarily in tho latter bnilding. otherwise the soldiers could not be accommodated. The Rev. Knowlcs Smith gave an address at the men's meeting on Sunday afternoon, and many soldiers and visitors wero afterwards present: ot the strangers' tea. Over 40 soldiers were entertained at supper and song service after church. Mr. A. Yarney (general secretary of tho association), wlio has been on a (rip to England and France, where lie has been acting as supervising Recrefary,- r.F the Y.M.C.A. war work for New 7eaiand troops,' will be welcomed bv the members and friends of tho local Y.M.'.'.A. at a social gathering on Thurfdav next at 8 o'clock. At this function Mr. A. R Smith, who has been actinu as secretary, will be farewelled. and Mr. Sydney L. Peck, the new assistant general secretary, welcomed.
