At the Magistrate's Court yesterday Mr. ... S.M., presided. and dealt with tho police cases.

Mahoney, accordiuif to the records, had served sentences in Stratford, Taihape, Hamilton, -jioiimsville, and Wellington, ilo was convicted and sentenced to six months' imprisonment.

John James Boyd, builder, of Kilbirnic, was charged with driving a motor-car without a certillcate; driving his motorcar at an excessive speed to the danger of the public, and failing to 1-eep to the proper side of the street while driving his motor-car. Stephen Jitmes Itodda, whose arrears in respect to the maintenance of his wife amounted to £104 145.. wug sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the warrant not tt be issued uutil plaintifl's solicitor applied for same. Mr. IJ.1 J . W. Jackson appeared for defendant and asked for security of appeal to be fixed, and £10 was the amount so fixed. John Bryant Lane, in arrears to the extent of £6, in respect of the maintenance of his wife, was sentenced to a month's Imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as.6s. per week is raid ull the arrearß. Patrick Francis Newton was oidered to pay 355. per week for the maintenance of his wife and children. William Clisby, whose arrears totalled £G 55., was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, the Umo of the warrant to be suspended until August 16. Bernard M'Kenna, in arrears to the extent of £16 55., in respect to tho maintenance of his wife and two children, and £1 in respect to the maintenance of another child, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment and fourteen days' imprisonment respectively, tho warrants not to be issued until applied for by plaintifi's solicitor.

William Diehard Potter was ordered to paj- 15s. per week towards the maintenance of his wife.
