Women's National Reserve. The Girls' Club lieltl a successful entertainment on Friday evening in tho Esperanto Hall, where the club meets every week. Tho first part of the programme consisted of songs, recitations, and earning, and the second part was undertaken by tho Rev. Archibald Hunt, who delighted all present with his ablo rendering of "The lievenge." As an encore ho gave a humorous piece, which was immensely enjoyed by the audience. There were sweets and fancy work stalls, the goods on which reflected great credit on the members, who have been working for tho past few weeks. The object of the entertainment was to raise a sum to pay tho rent of tho room, also to purchase material for Red Cross purposes. The result was ,£ls. the girls having taken_ <£!-!- and Mrs. IC. \V. Holmes donating ,£l. Tho success of this is duo to the indefatigable energy of the secretary, Miss Port, and tho enthusiastic committee of girls, namely, the Misses Cassey, Miller, M'Gowan, Cook, Chambers, Wilson, and Atkinson, all of whom Have spared neither time nor trouble to raise the sum required. Wellington Red Cross Shop. A meeting of the Wellington Red Cross Shop Committeo was held yesterday morning, the Mayoress (Mrs. ,f. P. Luke) presiding. A discussion dealing with tho question of dividing Wellington into districts, which would be called upon to slock the Red Cross Shop at stated periods of time lapsed. It was reported that arrangements for taking the shop I ill the end of December had now been made, and thoro were only one or two societies remaining whoso days had not yet been allocated. It was stated that since the last amount of money had been sent Home tho committee Jiad now in hand the sum of .£l5O, which was being held until the Wellington Terrace and the Women's National Reserve had had their days at the shop, when it was hoped that there would be a very substantial amount to cable to England for Red Cross needs. Carterton Notes. Mrs. Las. Moncrieff, sen., of Claroville, 011 Friday last attained her SStli birthday, and still enjoys excellent health. Mrs. W. Numbers of the children wero ill fancy dress. There was a good sprinkling of older folk, and all spent an enjoyable time. The guests brought gifts for soldiers, and over 200 packets resulted. Varnoy, who has spent twelve months in England and France as supervising secretary of l-ho Y.M.C.A., will havo ninny interesting experiences to relate. and important messages to deliver to parents and friends from tho hoys lie has met in the trenches. To enable liini to meet the mothers specially a gathering is being arranged at the Concert Chamber of the Town Ilall m Friday afternoon, to which all women arc invited. Tho Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke) will preside over the meeting. Mrs. Wallace,- of Christchurch. is the guest of Mrs. G-. M. Lethbridge, Otaki. Air. and Mrs. Fcuwick, of Dnuedin, who have been spending a. few days in Wellington, left yesterday for Picton and Nelson. Mr. Lee, M.l' and Airs. Lee (Oaniaru) aro staying at the Hotel Cecil. Her Excellency tho Countess of Liverpool has accepted tho invitation to be present at Mr. Parr's leoturo in s-id of the Navy League Ladies' Auxiliary. Jlrs. liaise. (Greytown) is visiting Mrs. St. George, Masterton. Tho death occurred at Masterton on Saturday of Nurse Hall, relict of the late Air. Henr.v Hall, who died in Wellington about forty years ago. The deceased was seventy-nine years of age. She leaves two sons, one of whom is Captain ,1. B. Hall, of the coastal service. The honorary treasurer of tho Women's Anti-German Society acknowledges receipt of the s«m of £.0 from Airs. T. 11. Lowry (Hawke's Bay), and il from Mrs. I. Worsley, Auckland. Tho Red Cross funds benefited to tho extent of J23G on Saaturday, when the ladies of Parkvalo, Ponatahi. and Waihakeke held their second sale of farm produce and miscellaneous goods at the Red Cross Shop at Carterton. A feature of tho day was the lunch, which was greatly patronised by visitors to the shop. The thanks of the "shopkeepers" are due to Air. ,T. Oates for general help, to Air. Herdman for sotting the gas fittings, and to Air. Goodin, who supplied firewood and "kept tho home fires burning." The ladies responsible for the day's business were: Atcsdames Denbie, J. Ontes, Afatson, Court, Brockett, Adams, H. Rnynor. Graham, Petersen. Peters, At'lntosh ami Ollivor; Misses Oates, Edwards. Johnson, Al'Phce, Burgess (2), Jensen (2), M'lntosh and Swinn. Afrs. Arthur Afyers and Airs. P. ffathan have arranged anollier musicnl matinee, which will tako place in St. Andrew's Hall. The Terrace, on July 2-t, for the benefit of St. Mary's Home, Ivarori. 'Hie programme promises to bo a very interesting one, among some of tho items being a number of Grecian dances performed by Aiiss Beere's pupils. Some well-known Wellington artists will also assist with the programme. Tickets for the matinee may be obtained from Alrs ; Myers, Airs. P. Nathan, or members of the committee.
