MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Jlr. S. E. U'Garthy, S.IT.. presided at the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, and dealt with the police cases. For inaobrioty Patrick O'Neil was Unci £3, in default seven clays' imprisonment; Arthur Sheriff, who was found helplessly livunk in Ijambton Quay, was fined 203., and ordered to pay 17s. 6d. medical expenses, with the option of seven days' imprisonment. One first offender was ftaied 10a., in default twenty-four hours, another was ordered to pay medical expenses, 17e. 6d.. and find himself udder a prohibition order, and a third was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called "convicted of beins an idle and disorderly person in that he possessed insufficient lawful meanv of support. James Laußney was sent to prison for three iionth.i. _ George Smitl, also charged with being an idle and disorderly person in tnat he had insufficient means of support, was remanded for a. week. ... , A remand to appear in Clinstchurch on Friday was made in the case of Benjamin BronUluu'st. Christchurch, charged with obtaininp three gold Tings by means of false pretences.
