MASTERTON NOTES

Masterton, July 15. Corporal D. Hebenton, who was formerly secretary of the Wairarapa branch of the farmers' Union, and who lias rendered much service in the- patriotic cause, was on Saturday afternoon entertained by the members of the Ked Cross Society and lady Liverpool Committee in Masterton, and presented with a silver wristlet watch. A man named William Cross was fiwd 405., in default fourteen days' imprisonment, by Mr. L. G. Eeid, S.M., for failing to register under the Military Service Act. The Masterton Trust Lauds Trust ,, estinates its receipts for the current year hy way of rents at .£2850. The trust has at present a credit balance of ,£727 6s. 7<l. There are at present fifty-three patients in the Masterton Hospital, of whom twenty-four are in the isolation ward. The Masterton School Committee Las approved the action of the New Zealand Educational Institute in asking for the curtailment of the hours of selling liquor in war time. At a meeting of the Masterton. A. and P. Association on Saturday it was reported that the receipts for the jear ■ amounted to .£3BOO. The financial year commenced with debit of .E195 and ended with a credit of .£IOO. Mr. W. Perry gave an interesting report on the work done at the Agricultural Conference, for which he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. .
