THE VANGUARD LOST
DESTROYED BY INTERNAL EXPLOSION NEARLY ALL HANDS PERISH The High Commissioner reports:— London, July 13, 6.10 p.m. An Admiralty report states: "H.M:S. Vanguard was blown up oa Monday, as the result of an internal explosion. Nearly all aboard perished." [The Vanguard was a Dreadnought battleship of 19,230 tons, completed , in 1910, at a cost of .£1,607,780: She/ was armed with ten 12in., eighteen 4in., and four 3-pounder guns,, and protected by a ten-inch armour belt. Her speed vas 22 knots. The officers and crew numbered 72-1.1 (Rec. July 15, 5.5 p.m.) London, July 13. The Admiralty reports that tho Vanguard, whilo auchored, blow up on the night of July 9, as the result- of an j infernal explosiou. The vessel Gank-iru-mediately. There were three-survivors-two men and an officer. The latter has since died. Ninotv-five of the crew were absent from 'the ship at the time-of the.-explosion.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-lieutcr.
