There is- a little more intiniry for oats, tlie demand, for seed for spring sowing now beginning to set in. Local supplies are difficult to obtain, and llio fact that the oat market in Australia is firmer, and that shipping space is being taken up ■ with wheat, reduces prospects of getting supplies from taero. The potato market is dull, for although there are now more sellers there is very Tittle demand. Auckland buyers who liavo made forward purchases have not yet had all their orders filled, as owing to the glut in tho market dhoy have been tasking merchants to hold back their shipments. Until these old orders are cleared up local merchants are not ready to mako any extensive purchases, as llio future of tho markets is yet doubtful. Tho shipment of a large quantity of. potatoes from the south, especially to Wellington markets on consignment, has not tended to improve tlie position. .A considerable quantity of those jiotatoes v-as from localities affected by the heavy rains, nnrt the comliHoTi was not gomi.
