"That the by-law regarding the cLarges for admission to, the.-Zoological coHec.'tion be amended in tho direction of increasing the charge for adults from 3d. to (id., such alteration to come into force on September 1 next," was the subetance of a clause brought down to the City Council by the Reserves Committee last evening. Councillor George Frost, in moving the adoption of the report, en id that he was the only one who had opposed the'proposal in committee, but lie did not feel justified in voting against the proposal. On tlio other hand, the prices of-food, material, etc., had gone up, and the "Zoo" was constantly being added to. The increase was favoured by Councillors W. H. Jiennett and R.. A. .Wright: The latter councillor quoted f-.gures representing Hie receipts and expenditure' of the Zoo covering the last'eight years. From 1909 to 1917 ('March 31) tho receipts had amounted to £1,105 (Is. 10d., and the expenditure to .£17,012 os. 7d., so that the Zoo had cost the rates i!!4,G06 IDs. Ild.
Councillor Frost said that lie considered the Zoo one of the finest r.ssets the city had, as it was a gient s revenue-pro-ducer for the tramways, and was a valuable education. The motion was passed.
