OPERATIONS IN EAST AFRICA
DRIVING COLUMNS AT WORK ENEMY'S FORCES KEPT APART (l!ec. July 12, 5.45 p.m.) London, July 11. An official dispatch on the operations in East Africa,states: "The enemy's right ilank detachment ncrth-west of Kilwa retreated from Lunya to Mayonga. Simultaneously our troops made contact with his contro at, Ukuli. Our forces on , July ,7 conversed in three columns from Jlyonrcfi, Kenuimbn Hill, and Wungu-i, against the Germans upon the Uku'iMayonga front. All the columns were successful, it was difficult country, the maximum advance being thirteen miles. "Another column drove ';he onemy across the liuipa River, and established themselves between tho enemy's detachment at Jlofua and the main position:Further north onr Reikuju forces pressed back the Germans on the SongeaLuvale road, enveloped the rearguard, and drove it northwards towards llahenge.
