FURTHER HAUL OF PRISONERS KM GUNS VICTORIOUS RUSSIANS STILL ADVANCING • GERMAN ATTACK ON ; TEMPORARY SUCCESS GAINED The Russians, pursuing their victorious offensive, have captured Halicz, making a further haul of prisoners and guns. In something like three weeks, it is computed, the Russians have put over 1(10,000 of the enemy's troops out of action. Since .Tuly S over ten thousand prisoners have been taken, together with a great quantity o£ guns and other munitions of war. The Russians have now crossed the valley of the Lomnica and occupied two more villages. With these operations the net is being drawn closer about Lemberg. In the West, the Germans suddenly, after an intense bombardment which the British returned, initialed a blow at the Yser front, near Lombaertzyde, destroying the bridge, and securing a temporary advantage. According to the German report, over a thousand prisoners were taken. The Allies' activity in the air has per-' ceptibly increased. The latest excursion has 'been to Constantinople, where a squadron of naval 'planes dropped bombs on the Turkish War Office, the ex-German battle-cruiser Goeben, and sundry other places witli noticeable effect. The German political crisis is less acute now that the spirit of compromise is in tho air and sops have beon giveu to the agitators for constitutional reform. "The Chancellor is now; stated lo be in a stronger position, than ever.
