CHURCH ARMY

A GREAT WORK. Sir,—When acknowledging on May 2 the receipt of .£2OO for the Waipukurau A. and P. Farmers' Hut, the secretary at Home of the Church Army said: "The money could not have come at a better time, for, in addition to the 1000 huts and tents, a request has just been made lb the Church Army for more on tho Western front, besides a request for 100 tents, which are to follow up our troops in the great advance." The Church Army had ISOO trained evangelists and mission sisters wlien the war broke out—that is one reason why tho Church Army's huts are so successful. An experienced evangelist is in charge of each, and the nrivate room railed off for prayer or talks.

Our Naval Hospital of 100 bods at Dungavel House, Scotland, lias been taken over by the Admiralty, and tho War Offico has requested the Church Army to convert their seaside club at Taukerton, in Kent, into a convalescent home for soldiers. Wo are glad to do anything for our 6bldinrs, and the 100 beds have been set un there. It appears that the air of Taukerton is of exceptional value in the cases of septic wounds. Our trained mission sisters are invaluablo for this hospital work. The Buckingham Palace Hotel lias been couverted into a hostel for soldiers on leave from France, and the management committed to the Church Army. Thirty thousand soldiers on leave, which must include many New Zealanders, bave used.the 600 beds provided in tho four months since it was opened by the Hon. Lady Haig. Two hundred ladies have volunteered to run the canteen for twenty-two out of the twenty-four hours, working in four Telays. Twenty thousand pounds yearly are snent on magazines, books, and free stationery for the men using the Church Army'huts; 200,000 use tho huts daily, and 200.000 letters are written weekly.— I am, etc., F.
