ACCIDENT IN TAITA GORGE
MOTOR-CAR FALLS ABOUT TWENTf FEET. A serious accident occurred to a party of motorists towards the Wellington i'ud of the Taita Gorge about a.m. yesterday. The party, consisting of three men and about four women, was proceeding to the Trentham racecourse in a Stinei'va taxi-cab. It is stated that the driver was about to pass another car that was coming towaids him. He had not sufficient roam, and the outer edge of the load breaking down, he went over a HOtoof bank.. The. car turned two somersaults, and landed on its wheels. The men got clear, but a Sirs. Anstice and a Miss Egan were not so fortunate. ' Sirs. Anstice received a fractured rib and injury to the lung, and severe shock, while Hiss Egan had a rib broken. Dr. Cahill arrived on the scene very shortly after the disaster, and he sent for the ambulance at Trentham. The.injured women were conveyed to Trentham Hospital, -where Sirs. Anstice was found to be in a grave condition. Sliss Egan was sent back to Wellington later in the day. No information as to the condition of either last night was available.
