MILITARY SERVICE BOARD

— * YESTERDAY'S APPEALS. 'The Third Wellington Military Service Board sat in Wellington yesterday. Mr. H. J. Beswick presided, and with him woro Mr. M. if. Mack and Mr. A. O'L. Considino. Captain Baldwin represented the military. The board decided to recommend that Corporal T. A. Winn be granted three months' leave' of absence for domestio reasons.

Tho employer of Michael Ryan, plumber, appealed for his exemption. The board.dismissed tho appeal, and granted Ryan leavo till August 22. Tho appeals of five Catholic priests wore .adjourned till Thursday. Georgo Tancred Phipps Williams, the owner of an importing business, asked for time to arrange his affairs. Leave till July 26 was granted. William Henry Lee, joiner, Pelone, did not appear, and the board dismissed his appeal. Herbert William Lloyd Drevitt, manager of his mother's farm at Paraparaumu, Hntt County, appealed on the ground of undue hardship. Tho case was adjourned sine die

Thomas Herbert Parkin, fruiterer and confectioner, Potone, asked for leave to enable him to dispose of his business. Leave till August 22 was granted.

Claude Victor Freyberg, brother of Brigadier-General Preyberg, said that ho had been before the First Welling-, ton Military Service Board, whioh had allowed his appeal on the ground of undue hardship. He was rather surprised -at having been drawn. again in the ballot. Tho chairman explained that a man whose appeal had been allowed automatically went back into tho ballot. The board could adjourn the case sine die, and then it would be subject to Teview later on. This course was finally adopted. "The country w proud of what .your family has done," the chairman remarked to appellant. William Otho Morris, paint manufacturer. Lower Hutt, was granted leavo to August 22.

Charles William Roland Watson, railway clerk, of Johnsonville, asked for financial assistance. The board decided to recommend that appellant bo granted the assistance required. Tho case was adjourned.
