—♦ — • TEXING-OUT CAMPS ADVOCATED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, July 10. The Committee of the Canterbury Industrial Association passed tho following motion to-night: "That in view of the first ballot tor the Second Di 'ision being takeu within the next three mouths it is imperative, in fairness to men belonging to this division, and to prevent as far as possible the dislocation of business, and to minimise industrial disorganisation, that local or trying-out camps should be established so that no man should 1)0 obliged to give up.business or his situation until absolutely sure that when ho is sent to Trentham he will not be turned down as medically unfit. That tho position be placed before the Efficiency Board with a request that the board go into the matter and recommend accordingly."
LEAGUE FORMED AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, July 10.
A Second Division League was formed to-night. A resolution was passed urging the immediate need for a revision of the scale of allowances, pay and pensions, so that dependants of soldiers at present and in the future, may not have to appeal to patriotic charity for assistance, which should be provided by the State.
Another resolution urged that facilities be provided' for the immediate examination of Classes A and B, and expressed the opinion that a reservist should noi he graded by private or semi-official persons, but all ballots should be taken under the present system, and exemptions, other than for physical unfitness, granted-only by a Military Court of Appeal. Regret was expressed that there was no Government recognition of dependants other than wives and children. THE TLUAKU LEAGUE. Timaru, July 10. At a well-attended public meoting tonight under tho auspices of the Second Division League all tho speakers agreed that it was necessary to continue reinforcements till the war was, won, but the Government should make adequate provision for dependants, which could easily bo done out of war profits. A resolution was carried unanimously that tho Government bo urged to increase tho allowance to wife and ono child from (is. 9d. to 10s. per day, and others in proportion. A meeting of Gapes Valley settlers a few days ago refused to join the league on the ground that the league was asking too much.
