COLD AND SHOWERY
Present indications, according to tha official forecast, are for cotd and showery Weather. Yesterday was fairly fine, but dull, with occasional drops of. rain. Tn the afternoon the air became raw and chilly. Rain fell in many parts of the country. The wind is expected to como strong* from ,nor'-wcst to sou'-west. The barometer is unsteady, but with a rising tendency.
Mr. Charles Aaniodt died suddenly nt his residence in Jessie Street at 7.M o'clock yesterday morning. The late Mr. Anmodt, who vr.s about 58 years of age, was horn and educated at Wanganui, in which town his mother still lives, and he came to reside in Wellington over 3(1 years ago. He was for a long time engrossing clerk to Messrs. Stafford, Treadwell, and Field, and afterwards obtained an appointment .in the City Solicitor's office, retaining the position until his death. For the past two years his health had not been good. In his earlier days he was a prominent volunteer and a finn marksman. He was secretary of the Wellington Guards for many years, and was also at one time secretary of the Wel-> lington Rifle Association; He has left a widow and several children.
