THANKS FROM THE 27th REINFORCE MENTS

Somewhero at Sea, June 20, 1917. (To tho Editor.) Sir,—Kindly permit me, through the medium of your valued papor, to express tho deepest gratitude of "Tlia-. Jjoys" of "A" Company, Twenty-Seventh lieinforcements, for the magnificent lesponse niadiK by tho people of Wellington to my appeal for i'uads, ote., etc., to provide for the comfort of our men. during the voyage. The response tomy collection was so spontaneous that I was enabled to raise X'U9 15s. in cash, and over .1:120 worth of gifts in kind. The efforts of tho ladies of Wellington to aid me in my more than pieasant work—which by reasons of military duties was confined to threo days prior to our embarkation—were really remarkable, and our "boys" are unanimous ltt ■ voting them "All wool and a yard wide.' Where so many have contributed eo freely and splendidly, it is impossible to thank personally, or mention individual' names, but I can/iot close without special 1 notice of Mrs. M. A. Williams, of The Terrace, who gave us k donatioiL of ,£3O, and whom tho lads of my company have dubbed "Tho Mother of k. Company." , ' We all deeply appreciate the efforts of the Mayor and Mayoress on our behalf, and our boys just adore them both \ for their splendid work on behalf of tho soldiers, and tho kind courtesy of Mr. J. Lewis, secretary of the Patriotic Society, will certainly never be forgotten by myself, as his office and advice was always at my disposal. We are all well, and have a magnificent ship manned by splendid officers and crew; the food is jyst grand, and .no effort has been spared to make cur trip to "Blighty" all that can land us fit to do our "bit" for King and our glorious Empire.—Tours very sincerely, (Sgd.) AETHUR OAIvEY, Lieutenant and Asst. Q.JL'
