CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE AND THE PROPOSED TRANSFER. By Telegraph-Press Association. Dunedjn, July 9. The Council of Chambers of Commerce passed a motion viewing with profound regret the proposed-transfer of control of the Union Company to tho P. and 0. Company, believing it may result in serious disadvantage to the trading interests of the Dominion. While the council is not prepared to recommend the dovernraeot to oppose the transfer of shares, it expresses the opinion that the government should exercise great watchfulness respecting any new control _ over a very important.portion of the shipping iacilities of the Dominion, and to take sncn steps as may be possible to safeguard our trading interests.
