A French official communique states: "An intense German bombardment from uorth of LafFaux Mill to Froidmont Farm preceded violent attack* on four different sectors of this front. After desperate fighting the enemy's massed attacks were driven off with very heavy losses. Our positions -were entirely maintained. Between. Desßovettcs and Froidmont Farm an attack developed on a front of threo kilometres (about two niiles). After a struggle of several hours the enemy was ejected from the first line elements which had been penetrated. \Ve appreciably have extended tho position which we retook on July 1 east of Cerny.
