MASTERTON NOTES
The season of "Our Reveille," which was organised by Mr. W. Lints on,behalf of tlic Returned Soldiors' Association, was brought to a closo on Saturday night, when thero was another crowded audience. A sum of over ,£6OO lias been realised by the entertainment Tho ladies' wool-classing class at the Masterton Technical School has proved very' successful, and. twelve ladies of tho district are now regarded as expert woolclassers.
A publican was fined .£2 at Carterton for exposing liquor for salo 'that itid not contain the specified proportion of proof spirit. The defendant stated that he had watered tho whisky in the interests of quietness and sobriety, and served this liquor only to those who wore hard drinkers. •?
Nurse B. Smale, of tho Kapiev Hospital," has been appointed a sister on the staff of the ilastarton. Hospital. The residents "of Whakataki held a fete last week in aid of the Red Cross funds. Professor T, A. Hunter delivered «.n ad<lreS3 in'. Ma'stertoii on Friday nigbt, entitled "Education or Downfall." At the conclusion of the address a resolution was passed, on the motion of tho president of the Wairar.mi Branch.of the Teachers' Institute: "That this meeting recognises the need of immediate and persistent effort in tho direction of education reform."
