PRELIMINARY BUSINESS

(Eec.' July 8, 5.5 p.m.) London, July G._ Mr. Lloyd Georgo (the Prime Minister), in the House of Commons, announced that tlie Irish Convention would assemble i" Dublin on. July 25. Thn preliminary business would bo concerned with the appointment of a chairman. Jir. ])ul;b (Chief Secretary) would act as provisional chairman. The Government would nominate a chairman in the event-or' the Convention failing to agree upon mi appointment. Most of ithe nominations lor the delegates had already been received. Eminent Irishmen were assembling from all parts in a spirit of conciliation to endeavour to secure a settlement of these old discords. The Government would do its best towards the same end—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
