POULTRY SHOW
CLUB'S ANNUAL DINNER Yesterday was the second, day of the Wellington Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Sooiety's Show at St. Peter's Schoolroom. During the day tho attendance was good, and last evening tho hall wan crowded by poultry fanciers. Besides the birds, tbt) fine collection of trophies and special prizes received a good deal of attention. These belong to tho Wellington Poultry Fanciers'- Utility Breeders' and Exhibitors' Club, and aro competed for at each nnnual show. The winners in this sliow were published yc.'terday. Tho collection is the best Been ia Wellington since the Wellington Society started. The club bas only been in existence about .two years, and tho collection of silver (now valued at £110) contains two handsome shields, nineteen cups, two roso bowls, one stand, one fruit tray, and one clook. Tho members give unstinted praise to Mr. A. Thomas, the secretary, for bis ceaseless efforts to make tho club a succcsb. There is still one cup to be won. and that is for the best bird in the slum. Two birds stand forth, and a third judge is to examine them, aa the present two judges cannot come to a decision. Tho Ited Shield has been won by Mr. W. Davoy, with a Hhodo Island Bed Crop. He also won the club's £3 3s. cup. Tbe result of the best bird in the show competition will bo known to-day.
The cat division will be on show to-day and this. evening, and tho judging will take place this morning.
Tho Annual Dinner. In St. Peter's Schoolroom the annual dinner of the club was held last evening. Mr. George Finn occupied tho chair, and there was a gathering of over one hundred members present. • In conjunction with the various toasts some important matters wero brought tip: After tho toaßt of "The King" had been: honoured, Mr. A. G. Betts, of Nel6on, was asked to propose the toast of tho club. He complimented the club on the very fine exhibition, particularly aa the show was held under-ad-verse circumstances. Tho hall was really only big enough to take tho canary division, and at this Bhow theso wero not Been to advantage, as their cages wero all sido on. The chairman's name was coupled with the toast, and in replying ho apologised to tho members for holding the show in such a emaU placo. They had held it in the Harbour Board shed for two years, and ho hoped they would bo able to hold their next show thero. Owing to the accumulation of oargo on tho wharves this year the Harbour Board had been absolutely unable to clear a shed. Continuing ho said that the show was not going back. They had certainly had more entries at several of their previous shows, hut never had they had better quality. The large number who had attended the show proved how many were interested in poultry, and he hoped that when the war was over, and sorno o£ the boys returned ■ from the front, -they would taka to poultry farming, and increase the interest, v
