MIRAMAR BOROUGH

MEETING OP THE COUNCIL. The ordinary meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr: P. Townsend) presiding. Councillors S. H. Underwood, M. Tracev, It. Hawthorn, W. H. Green, and H. K. Eobertshaw were also present. Mr. A. H\ Wright, now resident in Duncdin, complained that he had paid 10 per cent, on overdue rates simplv because they were overdue, and stated that he had been informed that where no demand for rates had been received the 10 per cent, penalty could not be enforced, and therefore asked for 17s. 6d. refund. A reply was- sent stating that the council was within its legal rights in enforcing the 10 per cent, penalty. Mr. 8. Lawson wrote asking permission to build two houses on a corner section which has three frontage*. It was decided to grant permission as requested. The Miramar Itcd Cross Society was granted the free use of the Town Hall on July 21. There was further discussion respecting tho insurance of the motor-bus, and it was decided to take no action pending further information being obtained. Accounts amounting to £305 were passed for payment. It was decided to plant trees and shruba in selected portions of the borough this season.
