TRAM FARES TO WADESTOWN
ARE THEY EXCESSIVE? A deputation of Wadestown residents is to wait upon the City Council on Thursday evening next in order to urgo upon that body the equity of readjusting the fares between the city and Wadestown. The residents of that portion of the city believe that they are being very harshly treated, and refer to the meagre length of their penny sections compared with the length of those of any other part of the-system. The fare from tho tiovernment Buildings to. the terminus at Wadestown is 3d., Tho distance is divided into three penny sections—tho first to Park Street, the second to Kidbrook Street, and the third to the terminus. The first section is only half the length of the penny section that ends at the Botanical Gardens. Prom ■ Park Street to Kidbrook Street is only •13 chains (from Lambton Station to Courtenay Place is 111 chains), and from Kidbrook Street to the terminus is 52 chains. A glance at the official records of tho length of sections shows that these are much the shortest sections in tho Wellington tramways system. To make that clear, it may be stated that thero are eleven penny sections twice the length of any one of th« penny sections on the •Wadestown line. The only section which approximates in length those of the Wadestown line is the 53-chain section between the Karori cemetery and the Council Chambers (at Karori).
