Allport, Secretary for Marine, advised yesterday that it had been decided that no further inquiry was necessary into the recent sinking of the steamer Kotaro at WaiKawa. The vessel had struck some unknown obstruction, and no blame was attachable to anyone.
THE EEFLOATEp BARQUE. Cargo discharging operations aro nearly completed on the barque which recently got into trouble at the Heads. It is probable that tho vessel will go on the Wellington slip on Monday next for repairs. As has been previously stated, tho Quecu's Drive will bo blocked for about . two hours whilo tho vessel is being put on the slip, and tho temporary road round her stern is being completed. This temporary road is now completed all but tho centre portion.
Yesterday the Marino Department received a telegram from Commander Hooper, of the iliiipmoa, stating that he had visited Rape Mnria van Diciuan, and would bo at ICnipara 10-ilay. At Kaipara the vessel will bo occupied for some days on buoy work-, and will then come on ( 0 Onoliimga She should arrive in Welling.ton about next "Wednesday. This morning the Defender is to come o(i the Wc'liniton patent slin anil will berth at the Ouecn's Wharf." She will not get away for the West Coast this weelr. as it has been decided to do some boiler repairs, which will occupy about ton days.
Mr. C. E. Shmart, iifth engineer of tlic Maori, has come ashore. The Kiui has been llxcd to load at the Bind lor Westport and Wellington. She should arrive hero about rho end of the week or early next week. The Ngatoro arrived at Napier early yesterday morning from Gisborne, and left again yesterday afternoon for Wellington, where she is duo about noon today. To-morrow the vessel will leave for Wanganui. At 10 a.m. to-day the Ngakuta is to go on the slip for cleaning. She will remain on for two or three days. The Kapiti is at present tied np at No. 3 Queen's Wharf, where she is undergoing annual overhaul. This will be completed in time to allow the vessel to leave on Saturday for Wangauui. A special trip is announced for the Blenheim which is due on Thursday from Blenheim, and will leave the same day for Wanganui. To-morrow the Monowai is due from Dunedin aud Lyttelton. The Union Company advise that the vessel will take no Wellington cargo for cither Napier, Gisborne or Auckland.
