THE BASIS OF PEACE NEGOTIATION

GERMAN PRESS ON MR. LLOYD GEORGE'S SPEECH "ENGLAND WILL BITE THE GRANITE " Amsterdam; July 2. The "Kolnische Volks Zeituug" dismisses Mr. Lloyd George's Glasgow speech by saying: "Mr. Lloyd George knows that thp Central Powers cannot accept his peace conditions without signing their death-warrant. England is conducting the war to annihilate Germany; but England will bite the granite, and the U-boats will finish her discomfiture."

Tho "Cologne Gazette" says: "Mr. Lloyd George has, for the first time, confessed that England is conducting a war of robbery for the conquest of the world, to enable England to possess the Gordon of Eden and t.ho German colonies. The Germans are prepared to endure suffering and privation a little longer rather than agree to a premature peace."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
