Mr. Bonar Law (Chancellor-of tho J'.xehenuer) said he regretted the necessity of increasing tho burdens, but the revenue must: bo found. The Government was endeavouring lo get the rovenuo from those who were best able, to contribute, as was shown by tlio excess of direct over indirect taxation. In the period 1913-11, indirect taxation totalled -eiin.OOO.OOO: in the present Budget it reached .£102,10(1,000. In Ml.'l-U direct taxation produced ,U93,000,000, and it now stood at. JM66.<100,000.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Roufer.
