(Rec. July 4, 1.30 a.m.) Athens, July 2. The Greek troops to-day took the oath of allegiance, to the new King. There was an imposing ceremony in tho presence of M. Yenizelos, and subsequently a Requiem Mass was sung at the Cathedral for the soldiers who had been killed on the Macedonian front. M. Venizelos on returning to his hotel was enthusiastically acclaimed. In a speech, from the balcony he announced that the Army had been sworn to the achieving of the long-desired union of the two parties in Greece. ' , , ~ . General Papoulas asked to be relieved of his command, and issued a farewell order exhorting the troops to .remain fraternally united to serve their lung and country. \RMT PREPARED TO BACK VENIZELOS. (Rec. July 3, 8.5 p.m.) Athens, July 2. Representatives of the Greek Army at Peloponnesus have arrived, and interviewed M. Venizelos, assuring him that the entire array was ready to carry out the orders of the Government.-Aus.-N.ll. Cable Assn.
STATEMENT BY MR. BALFOUR, (l?ec. July 3, 9.8 p.m.) London, July 2. In the House of Commons Mr. A. J. Balfour (Secretary of State for. Foreign TTfairs) said that the King of Greece had given assurances in respect to the Hellenic Constitution. His uncles, Trince- Andrew and Prince Nicholas, had already left Greece— Aiis.-N.Z.
