U.S. WOMEN'S WAR ECONOMY
SIMPLE DEESS AND FOOD. An appeal to all women in the United 'States to preach and practise economy in food and drees has been issued by the wives of all the members of the American Cabinet. Headed by Mrs. Woodrow Wilson ami Mrs. Thomas E. Marshall, wife of the Vice-President, these women declare that, realising the problems with which the country is confronted, they have resolved to reduce their living to a simple form and to deny themselves all .'unnecessary .luxuries while the war lasts. Their self-denying vow calls for the omission of the customary formal entertaining and calling , and the abandonment of all purely social activities in order that they, may devote time and money to preparedness and relief work. They pledge themselves to buy only inexpensive clothing and t simple food and to study how to prevent waste of all kinds. TJhey declare that the energy of the entire , country must be given henceforth to the conservation of all its Tβsouces and the cultivation of all available land for the production of food, with a view to the avoidance of future Buffering.
