There can bo few, if there are any, businesses in which work has grown so rapidly as the Defence Department, and as its ,work has grown tho Department has reached out here, there, and every-; where for more office accommodation. Headquarters up on Mt. Gook the build' ings have been added to in order to pKH vide more room for the ever-swelling army of clerks, and yesterday another addition to the main building was open« N ed for use. . ; Evidently it is considered that still more office accommodation is needed* Certain land was being cleared, and it was understood that it was to be lieedfor erecting a building on. However,, it is now reported that the Government,,acting with the authority of the War, ReguiaioM, has commandeered a story building off Taranaki Street, and! that the whole of tho building, which, is quite new, will be Tised for the purposes of the Defence Department. It is also reported that the Government is finding other accommodation for the business of the owners of the commandeered buildirig. v
