FORECAST AND SUMMARY AT 4 P.M. YESTERDAY. Present indications are for westerly wind*, strong to gale, and changeable, squall/ conditions. Rain is probable generally, and heavy rain, with I'ivci'H rising on the West Coast and soutiern- ■ most districts of the South Island, with snow on higher levels. Barometer unsteady, falling further; especially in the south. The barometer haß been unsteady and has remained considerably below normal in the south.
