Yesterday ho was oonvicted and discharged for being drunk, fined 10s., in default throe, days' imprisonment for assaulting the landlady, and ordered to. refund 305., tho cost of tho glass panel. A remand till Tuesday was granted in the ease of LawTenco Charles lE'Guire. charged ivith the theft of ono piece of plato-slass, value 11s. 6d., aud one mirror, value 6a. 3d., the property of Bead and Fenwick, Ltd. For insobriety, Olara, Algar -was, fined 10s., in dofault three days' imprisonment. Four first oflenders were convicted and discharged. Jarvis, a- permanent employee of ttio Wellington Harbour Board, was charged that on Mfty 16 be did fail to pay a, tram faro. Mr. J. o'Sh.ea appeared for tho Tramway Department, and stated that on the day in question tho condnctor wetot through tho car and dofentegt failed lo pay tho faro. Later, vrhen tho inspector boaTdcd tho ear and asked defendant t« show hie ticket, defendant tendered a shilling. Ho ivas then auestioned whether the condnotor had been, through ttte car, and ho said ho had not boon through. The conductor,' in his ovldcnce, said ho] went through tho car in -the nsuol way between Jtanncrs Street. «,nd Stewart Dawson's Corner, and asked Tor tho fares, and if the defendant tvrs on th'o car at tan timo he should havo paid. Tho tramway inspector also gave evidenco as to tho incident. Mr. O'Shea said he had summoned two other independent witneesoe, but neither had put in an appearance. . Mr. A-. W. Blair, who appeared for the defendant, called four witnossoa, who woro positive that the oonduotor did not como through tho car to collect fares a|a alleged. ' ...
