TRIBUTES TO THE DEAD

THE LATE DR. M'NAB. Tho PRIME MINISTER moved that tho House should pkco on record its high sense Of the distinguished services rendered to tho Dominion by the lato Hon. Dr. M'Nab, and tender to his relatives its sincere sympathy in their bereavement. Mr. Mnssey suid that the lato Hon. Dr. M'Nab had been one of tho best known of Now Zealand's public men during a long period of years. His honesty of conviction, his ardent Imperialism, and his personal qualities would be remembered by the House. His work in the collection and compilation of New Zealand's historical records had been invaluable, and his record in that respect would stand long after all political differences had been forgotten.

SIR JOSEPH WARD said that the doath of the late Dr. M'Nab had been a- severe blow. The late Minister had been .1 man of high principle, and one of tho most methodical and industrious workers ever seen in the public life of Now Zealand. No other man- had <lone 50 much for the collection ami preservation of the historical records of the Dominion. Sir Joseph Ward mentioned particularly tho late Di. M'Nab's work in the development of public opinion in favour of compulsory military "training. He had assisted to ninko possible tho Defeuco Act, -which had proved of enormous value to New Zealand during the present war.
