GREAT SCARCITY IN MANY LINES FOOD SITUATION BECOMING WORSE New York, June 28. Mr. Cyril Brown, tho correspondent of the "New York World," states that information has reached Stockholm that leather is so short in Germany that the people are compelled 'to wear wooden shoes. Only 10 per. cent, of footwear is made of leather. Rubber is so scarce that the cushions have been taken from tho billiard tobies. Soap is: almost unobtainable The food situation is becoming worse; fruit and sugar are practically unobtainable. The "New York Times" London correspondent states that examination of the clothing of German prisoners revealed that their uniforms are made of paper fibre, owing to tho shortage of cloth.— Aus.-N.Z.
