FRENCH CLUB

Tho French. Club had a very interesting ovening on Wednesday. Miss Van Staveren presided, and thero was a very good attendance of members. Miss M'Diarmid played a piano solo, and Madame Bendall gavo a lecturo_ on "Personal Impressions of tv Journey in Italy." Time prevented Madame Bendall fiaisliing her description of Italy, but she undertook to give the remainder on a future occasion. Tho lecture was listened .to with muck attention, and was heartily applauded. Miss Van Staveren eulogised the lecture, and proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Madaim Bendall. This was supported by Madame Dechanet M'lntosh, Misses Moad and Tunmins, and Messrs. John Bigg and C. J. Cooke, aid carried by acclamation. Before the close Mr. Whetton gave a recitation, and finally there was the oiuging of "La Marseillaise."

A desire to swell Wellington's contribution to the fund for the victims of tlio l-oceht air raid in London has prompted the- Lyall Bay Ladies' Forget-Me-Not Club to arrange a children's fancy dress oarnival at the Itaranui Church Hall on Wednesday, June 18. Mrs. Culford Bell, Miss Nesta Cook and her pupils will contribute to the programme, and. as there are no expenses and much energy has been already expended to make the event a success, it is confidently anticipated that tho result will be a considerable sum to be forwarded to London.
