Accordine to reports in American shipping circles, says an exchange the Cunard Jjino has paid <is £41. per ton in talrins over Norwegian contracts for shins now boing built on Pugot Sound. Two of these ships aro being built by tho Northwest Steel Co., nod it is understood that contracts havo just been olosed for fonr other boats to bo constructed at tin satuo rards. This Trill inaho a total of twenty boats oa tho Pacific Coast alone, that will havo' been acquired by tho Cunard Line. Of the seven boats acquired from Seattle Construction and Drydook Co., each 7500 tons, tho first will bo delivered in April, 1918, and tho contract calls for the dolivcry thereafter of one boat a month until tho contract is completed.- Tho -vessels will bo equipped with 2500 horse-power engines, and all the.machinery, including motive power and auxiliary cargo machines, will bo bnilfc ail

Tho Calm loads to-day, and leaves for Wanganui and Greymouth, and tho Breezo loads for southern ports. After making another trip to liyttclton tho Ilimitangi, which is due to-day. from that port, will load at Wellington, probably on Monday, for tho Chatham -Islands. Yesterday tho Kaituna was to have come out of dock at Lyttelton, -where she has been having two new propeller blades fitted. Theso were lost at Napier during her recent visit, when the weather was so bad that tho vessel had to leavo tho breakwater and put to sea. The Kaitnna proceeds to Westport from Lyttclton to load coal' for Port Chalmers. Tho Opawa, which has been undergoing overhaul and engine-froom repairs at Blenheim, is duo to-day from Blenheim to go on tho Patent Slip. After finishing 'overhaul she will iccommenco running in her old time-table. Captain Geo. Lambert has come a-shoro from the Komata, and Captain Jas. MXean has taken command of the vessel. Mr. D. .11. Bean has joined the Kamo as third engineer. _ Three Union Co. \es«elS, tho Komata, Kahika, end Kini are to leavo to-day for Wretnort. The Komata,will load at Woslport for Wellington, the Kahika for Napier and Gisborno, and tho Kini for Bluff. Tho recent southerly weathor will probably delay the KeTern en route from Auckland to Wellington with explosives, and she is not expected until the end of the week or early next Tveelc.
