He referred- to the fact that Canada, was tearing up r.u - way lines to send to the Western fron , and suggested that, as a move towaids national efficiency, pressure 1 " f brought to bear to induce the >ovcinment to lift the Otago Central lines and ansf i en, to this district for the. conduction of Che Mast Cow railr.y. which would greatly increase tho Dominion's productiveness. The suggestion was seriously made and ithe following speaker, the man, referred to the fact thai XUOOO had been spent on tho route I o taU tourists to Queenstown win e the bovenment would not grant ~£IOOO towards essential roids iu ITawkes Bay. The Public Works Engineer wtimaUd that the bridge would be completed in January. ■
