DIRECTIONS TO UNITS. ■ The Dominion Commandant'of the National Reserve (Colonel Porter, C.8.) has issued General- Directions regarding tho future of the Reserve following on the resignation of tho commandants, which will take effect as from June 30., Tho resignation of tho commandants constituting the Dominion Governing Council does not do facto cancel tho regulations, rules, and appointments made thorounder. Therefore, all activo units in the several* districts desirous of continuing their services under existing conditions should be allowed to do so. By the authority vested, in him under fiection 1, clause 5, tlio Dominion Commandant heroby directs: — The Dominion and AVellington District Headquarters offices will bo closed, and all appointments of staff terminated as from June 30.

The Dominion Instructional Staff will remain in iorce under tho commands of Major J. W. Steel, N.R., and Captain N. A. Grant, NvR., Staff. The last-named officer will also still hold %is appointment as staff adjutant in chargo of Group/No. 5. '< . Infantry.—The several National Reservo regiments below the authorised establishments strength a.ro disbanded, together with all appointments of officers. Independent companies below tho authorised establishment strength are hereby disbanded, together with all appointments of officers. Independent platoons, or platoons of disbanded companies, not below the minimum strength, may continue service as independent • platoons under their original establishments if so resolved by members. Platoons below the minimum strength of disbanded companies, or others, desirous of merging into National Reserve Rifle Clubs, may by resolution of their members so merge, and continue service nnder control of committees.' 'Medical Service^Corps.—The National Reserve field ambulanco detachments, ambulanco and nursing sections, established under the Regulations, will continuo their services in full forco under command of the. several P.M.O. and other officers as ,01-iginally appointed in general directions. The Army Service Corps will continue service under their original establishments. The Wellington .Ammunition Supply Column to remain attached to D Battery, N.Z.F.A., under its original establishment. Honorary Members' Division.—This division w}ll remain in force under its special rules, and all retiring members of the Reserve from units under classes 1, 2, and 3 of tho National Reserve rules of June 23, 1916, are advised to amalgamate with the honorary division; to still wear the'badge, ready to support any movements where their services may be required during the war. v The Dominion Commandant.—Colonel Porter, C.8., T.D., desires to express iis sincere; regret at the causes which I have 'led to the resignation of himself, district commandants, and oommandcrs. Tho causes of retirement were easily and reasonably tymadiable. by the Government. The organisation had attained, -voluntarily, throughout the Dominion a jvery efficient state, rendering valuable yaid to" the Defence authorities in many directions; also recruiting nnd well training members for the Expeditionary Reinforcements. ■■ • ' The Commandant further conveys his sincere- thanks ,to members of the Reserve o?' all ranks, for the loyal support and excellent discipline maintained during the last two and a half years, dating from the establishment of the Reserve Headquarte'rs under the Defence Instructions of January 25, 1915, to June 30, 1917.
