The death of Mr. Eobert Glendining removed a man who has for many years loomed very large in the public eye m the south, and one to whom the city ot Dunedin owes a great deal, ne was well known throughout the Doinuuon as one of the founders of.the firm of Messrs. Boss and Glendining, .and a wccnition of his business capacity, kindly and liberal benefactions enjoyed 1 W Tne E late Mr.'Glendining was. a_ native of Dumfries, Scotland, and was tornM 18i2 On the completion of a public school education in his native town, ne served his apprenticeship to the drapery traae. In 1862 lie took passage by the ship Evening Star for Dunedin where . a great many of Ms countrymen had alreldy formed a settlement friwnsfc of the same year he and Mr. Jotaßw entered into partnership for the P of establishing a drapery business, under their mana-ement rapidly grow Ssize. Four yeas later the ; founded business ,was acquired by Messib.
