1 NTIOJvI\RET ATTON OK AN .AWARD. The Arbitration Court sal _ yesterday to hear an application for an interpretation of the furniture trades award. On tho Bench woro tho president (Mr. Justice Stringer) and Messrs. W. Scott and .1. A. 11' Cut lough. The Wellington Furniture Trades Union asked for the opinion of tho Court as to whether ia. man working a machine in a wire-mattress factory should roceivo pay na a. furniture shop machinist (Is. (id. an hour), or as a wire-<ma.tlTess maker. The union contended that a man using a machine wsis entitled, to machinist's pay, and tho employers contended (.hat the man iras not required to havo tho samo skill as a' cabinot-making machinist, and wis in effect a mattressmaker, tho Court having made special provision in tho award for this trade. Tho Court reserved decision. Mr. W. A. W. Grenfell appeared for the employers, a.nd Mr. D. P. Kennedy for tho union.
