WAR PENSIONS

A RECORD WEEK. The War Pensions Board made a new record last week in the number of claims dealt with. The board considered 2'Jo new claims, and 114 applications for renewals of temporary pensions previously granted. And on hand for this week are 252 new claims. Last week 283 pensions, of an annual value of Jilo,3o:j, were granted. Jlost of thesti, however, are temporary pensions. Of the 295 iicw claims, 235 were from soldiers, and 60 from depeiulant;. To the soldier applicants were granted four permanent pensions, ami 22(i temporary pensions, and five applications were declined. The dependants' claims wore dealt with as follow:—23 permanent pensions granted, 30 temporary pensions, 5 declined, 2 adjourned. The gross total

of annual value of pensions granted is .£313,390, and it is estimated, after allowing for cancellations through death or other causes, that the net annual liability of the state is now J5329.300.
