On Wednesday in the Drill Hall at Dannevirke a very successful concert and dance, organised by the Dnnnevirke and district branch of the New Zealand Deturned Soldiers' Association, was held. The interior of the hall had been most effectively draped with flags and streamers, and long before tho advertised time of commencement the place was crowded with people The Mayor of Dannevirke mado a brief speech, and introduced Mr. C. W. Batton, late organising secretary of the New Zealand Returned Association, Mr. A. Palmer, president of the local branch, and Mr. Spiers, of Palmorston North, secretary of the Palmereton branch.. At the conclusion of the speeches the concert programme was carried out, ami Inter dancing followed. At a public mooting on Saturday (says a. Press Association telegram from Waimato) tho Mayoress (Mrs. George Dash) permanently resigned tho presidency of tho Lady Liverpool Committee. There has been a good deal of friction lately owing to the Mayoress not falling in with her committee. She had previously refused to consult tihpiu. The Mayoress called a public meetiug for Saturday, but tho meeting passed a resolution that tho committee's standing bo not interfered with, (uid wero thanked for their past work.
