AFFAIRS IN SPAIN

CURIOUS SCARCITY OF NEWS REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENT REPORTED London, June 15. Titer* is a curious scarcity of Spanish nowa in. London. A solitary telegram in twenty-four hours received from Barcelona states that employees in Government Departments are organising a Defence Committee and are endeavouring to arrive at an understanding with tlie Military Committee of Defence. The Minister oi' the Interior doclares that Barcelona is calm, despite rumours to the contrary. The "Daily Express" states that the Spanish Embassy at London has not heard of tho revolutionary movement. Other advices indicate that a revolutionary propaganda is active among tho rank and file of the army, which dominates tho situation and is determined to secure its demands. If popular outbreaks occur it is doubtful if the military can restore order.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. A VERY GRAVE CRISIS THE ARMY OBTAINS COMPLETE DOMINANCE. (Itec. June 17, 5.5 p.m.) London, June 16. Tho "Daily Express" states that the gravest crisis lias arisen in Spain, and it is impossible to foresee the end. The ■Army has obtained complete dominance, and is demanding reforms which have been tabulated by military committees of defence, apparently working on the soldiers' lines. Kenor Dato is as powerless as Count de Bomajiones was to obtain any modification of the Army's demands, therefore constitutional government has beon suspended, the Army being the ultimate arbiter in the crisis, which is partly anfci-dynastic. Meanwhile Spain is hoteycombed with German spiee and ageuts, who axe endeavouring to turn the crisis.to German advantage.—United Service.
