MASTERTON NOTES

■ Tho mombers of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust held an important confercnco on Friday ovening with Dr. Anderson, Director of Education, in respect to higher education for Masterton. Dr. Anderson outlined a scheme which he considered adaptable to the town and district, and promised legislative assistunco in levelling dbstacles which stood in tho way of tho trust giving the scheme its practioal support. Dr. Anderson pointed out, however, that nothing could be done until peace was declared. It was statr;l at a'meeting of tho Masterton Chambor of Commerce that a good deal of exploration work had been dono in connection with the proposed electric light scheme for (he AVairarapa, but operations had been suspended tor the winter months. , Tho charge against Arthur Barnes or doing grievous bodily harm to i-e<> Dixon was reduced in the Magistrates Court to ono of common assault, in ms evidence Dixon, who has been in the hospital for some time, stated that the injuries lo his head had been accidentally sustained. Barnes was fined XI and costs for assault. Dr. Anderson. Director of Education, expressed the opinion at nlastcrton on Friday nWit that tho Education Boards, as at'present constituted, were not capable of effectively controlling schools set apart solely for (secondary education.
