FOOD FIRST

TEE' "Will CABINETS I'IAT.

The decision of the "War Cabinet that the production of food is more important "even than sending additional to the Army" was conveyed to the Hoiise of Commons recently by. Mr. Bonar Law, who replied to a criticism that the Government were, neglecting agriculture. The Chancellor of the Exchequer said that probably pno of the most difficult of the many difficult problems the Government had to face was to try to keep a reasonable measure between men who must bo got into tho Army if the battalions were to bo kept up and men needed for essential services. Cabinet had had the Departments of Afrriculture and War before them, and in every case an agreement had been arrived at - between them. Of course, individual cases must arise where the wrong thing was done, but it had been made quite clear both to the War Office and to the Board of Agriculture that in this particular case the Cabinet regarded the production of food as more important even than sending additional men to the Army. (Hear, hear.) , Obviously, however, it would not be right to give any Department the final word.
