MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. ! The 'Wellington City Council met last evening. There were present: Tho Mayor (Jfr. J. P. Imlce), Councillors TV". H. P. Barber. G. Frost, J. Godber. W H. Bennett, A. R. Atkinson, A. Yeitch. L. Jt Ken-l-we. TV. J. Thompson. li. A. Wright, W. T.'Hildreth, J. 0. Shorland, C. B. Norwood, and J. Castle. , The lire Brigade Committee reported that they have agreed to allow the Fire Brigade Superintendent to attend the annual meeting of the Jtosterton Fire Board at Masterton, on June 21. for the purpose of advising tho hoard in regard to the purchase of a motor machine for lire brigade purposes. . Tho following resolutions concerning road encroachments, etc., at Hataitai, were made:-(l) That a property owner at Huia Itaad. who has erected a fence (of a <lesi»n not approved by the council) on the road reservation without first obtaining jH'.rmission, be called unou to remove such fence forthwith. (2) That an .application by a property owner for permission to occupy a portion of the unformed road reservation at Rata Itoaa. measuring 61 feet x 33 feet 115 feet 3 Inches, be refused. 13) That an encroacher on the road reservation at Hataitai P.oad be informed that provided he gives tho council a proper ackndSvledgment of the encroachment in his occupation, and conforms to the council's usual conditions, he will bo permitted to remain in occupation of tho strip' is recommended. (« That permission be granted to a (property owner at Hataitai ltoad to enclose a portion of the road reservation in front, of his section, subject to the usual conditions, as recommended by the City Engineer. (5) That, a property owner who lias erected a fence on the unformed road rjoervation at the corner of Waitoa ahd ffintm Roads, without permission, ond who has not complied with the council's, notice to remove the fence be given seven days within which to remove the fence, otherwise legal srocccdings will be tahen to .enforce the council's demand. . . , A committee reported liavme received notification from the City Solicitor that the last, of the moneys owing bv %,• property owners for tho construction ot Grafton Road, Rosoneatii. have been paid, instructions have been issued for the woris to be proceeded with. It w<i* decided that the offer of the Commissioner of Crown Lands* to renew the lease of the Education Reserve adjoining Williams' Park Day's Bay (such lease containing provision for pon>"f,iml rlgi'ts of renewfll, subject to valuation for twenty-one years), at a rental of £f> per annum in lieu of the former rental of £16 7s. 2d., he accepted, subject to the City Solicitor being satisfied with the terms of the lease.
