Tho Monowai left Auckland at noon yesterday for Wellington, via ports. She arrives and leaves on Saturday, one day late. THE MISHAP TO THE KOTARE. Captain D. Hanniug, master Of tho Kotare, reporting on thj{ mishjp. states that tho vessel was berthed alongside Currio's -wharf at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Juno 5, with the starboard side to the wharf, and in tho same berth that he had been loading at for many years past. Soundings -were taken 15ft. from, tho stem of tho steamer to tho after part of : the bridge, and it was found that there was only 6in. diffcrcne© in the depth of water. At low water tho master found that the Kotaro was resting on a sand "hump," which could not be found at berthing, as this hump was right under the vessel's bottom. Tho Kotaro just floated long enough to cnablo thoi master to get her shifted on a, level bottom. She then sank, and her rails aro under water nt high tide. The midship keelson is badly broken, and some of the timbers sprung. Otherwise tho other parts of tho vessel appear not to be damaged, and Captain Hannin? anticipates that no troublo will be experienced in pumping the Kotaro ont with the pump sent down by tho trawler Napier. Captain Hanning has been master since the year 1875. He haß been trading in southern waters for many years past, nnd this is his first accident of any note'. VATERLAND TO BF- TIOOKED AT LITERPOOL. After discharging tho vessel will go on to Wanganui. Owing to Ftrcss of weather, tho Kennody, which left Nelson on Tuesday night, put into Picton for shelter. Kho should'arrivo to-day, and will go on tho slip for overhaul. The Alexander managed to set nut of Wanganni yesterday, and is due to-day. Rho leaves itt 3p.m. for tho West Coast direct, missing tho usual call at Nelson this trip. A general meeting of tho Wntcrsldo Workers' Union was held in "X" store litet evening. Mr. L.
