A .£IOOO GRANT.
An executive meeting of tho Bed Oross Society and Order of St. John was held at Government House yesterday. Jiij Excellency Lord Liverpool presided, and all the members of the committee were present. 'A. motion, of condolence with. Mrs. Hope Lewis on the death of hei husband, Lieut.-Colonel 'I. Hope Lewis, consulting surgeon to the New Zealand I'orcos, was carried in silence. In response to a cablegram received from Mr. Charles Elgar, the Now Zealand Bed Cross Commissioner in London, the executive authorised the expenditure of the sum of .£SOOO asked tor by General Bichardson for comforts for Now Zealand Military Hospitals in England. His Excellency read a letter from HBH l 3 rinces3 Chrietia.n, commending the work of the Lord Roberts Memorial Workshops for Disabled , Soldiers and Sailors, and the executivo empowered the New Zealand Bed Cross Commissioner, at the discretion of the London committee, to donate up to £1000 towards this most worthy object. _ The executive also authorised tho London committee to expend any portion of its funds for the relief of New /,ealand sick and wounded soldiers, without tho necessity of referring back to New Zealand, and furthermore resolved that any surplus goods which are not required in o. reasonable time by our troops should bo handed over to the joint organisation, of the British Bed Cross Society and Order of St. John. The question of badges for members was discussed, and it was decided to obtain information from England regarding badges issued there other than tho voluntary workers' badge.
