HEAVY SOUTHERLY GALE
Last week's mild spell of weather, prodieted the MoteoroloKical Department, was to cnlminalo in a bad week-end. The weather held out wonderfully, and although Sunday was wet, it was not unpleasantly so. Tho wind veered to tho south during the evening, and when tho dawn of yesterday broke ft heavy g»' 9 was blowing, and increasing in strength. :is tho day wore on. The wind, wao bitterly cold, and the he.vjy rftin squalla stung the cheeks with their icy chill. Present indications, states tho Weathin' Bureau, arc for cold and boisterous couditions, with south-easterly winds, reaching the force of a galo in certain parte. tfain is probable generally. «"<' over the North Island and in the' north-eastern , districts of the South Island the full >9 expected to be heavy, with floods, and snow in tho high country in the south. The barometer is unsteady in tlie.Foutn, but ie expected to riso rapidly in tue northern districts foon.
